Workshops for Local Government
theDeano conducts a variety of workshops for government groups, including city councils, chambers of commerce, Main Street boards, and economic development organizations of all types.

Communication Audits: Groups often struggle to identify what needs to be tweaked or changed in the governing board to make communication more effective. Following a full-scale communication audit, your group will discover challenges with internal and external modes of communication, along with specific suggestions for improvement. Feedback will be provided orally to the governing board, with a follow-up written report shortly after the audit has been conducted. Goals of the audits vary, but may include suggestions to resolve conflict, enhance collaboration across committees and departments, and for deadlocked groups to find consensus. In addition, groups will identify ways to better communicate with their constituents and the wider public.

Strategic Planning: Elected or appointed government bodies can find themselves struggling in their attempts to collaborate, communicate effectively, and work together to develop solutions for your community. Facilitation of focus groups among all stakeholders followed by interviews, surveys, and document review will provide a foundation for advising the governing body in its strategic planning initiatives.

SWOT Analysis: The SWOT (Strengths-Weaknesses-Opportunities-Threats) analysis includes small and large group facilitation to identify the qualities of the community and its major stakeholders. Private interviews with community leaders, elected officials, and major employers will be combined with a public forum with elected and appointed officials and major stakeholders to provide a fully-considered analysis. A written and oral report to the organization with specific recommendations will be provided by the consultant.

Intergenerational Communication: Today’s students are tomorrow’s workers. This presentation will describe this generation’s interactions with technology and uncover the values, attitudes, and beliefs of those who have grown up with computers from day one. Extensive discussion of intergenerational communication will be included.
